Who did you wear your’s for? Paige’s Ulti Charity Day for the Cancer Society

“Behind every name is a story of someone affected by cancer.”  –  NZ Cancer Society

This year, Ulti’s directors chose to launch a new initiative. The Ulti Charity Day! Employees were given an additional day of paid leave, so they could spend time with a charity of their choice.

Paige Lancaster- Operations Support for our Southern Region, chose to spend her Charity Day supporting those affected by cancer and Daffodil Day.

Daffodil Symbolism – “Rebirth and new beginnings.”

On the 31st of August, Paige volunteered at the Christchurch Airport. Raising funds and Cancer awareness for the New Zealand Cancer Society.

This day/event has inspired people to come together and support the work done by the NZ Cancer Society since 1990. ANZ has been their principal sponsor, promoting Daffodil Day as an important Cancer awareness day, pulling together volunteers and donors from all around New Zealand.

Why did you choose Daffodil Day or New Zealand Cancer Society as your Charity?

I chose to volunteer for Daffodil Day due to the fact that I lost my grandfather to cancer a few years ago and felt that this was my way of giving back to all the wonderful support that my family were given at the time. It is such a great cause and the fact that they do everything they do without any government funding it incredible!

How did your volunteering experience go? What did you do?

My experience went really well except for me wearing the wrong shoes to be standing on my feet for four hours! I meet some wonderful people, many of whom you could tell that they had been affected by Cancer by the amount of money they donated. I mainly walked around Christchurch Airport with the donation bucket and a bucket of daffodils and stickers.

How did it make you feel, being able to volunteer for this charity?

I felt that I was actually doing something to help people by volunteering.
