Ulti Group supplied a comprehensive door solution, including rapid doors, pedestrian access doors, roller shutters, and fire shutter doors, to ensure operational efficiency and sustainability.
THE RESULT
The new packhouse, built on time and within budget, operates seamlessly with Ulti Group’s doors, maintaining optimal environmental control and boosting productivity.
T&G Global is a powerhouse in the New Zealand apple industry, involved in growing, packing, developing new apple varieties, and exporting a significant volume of apples worldwide. The demand for premium New Zealand apples is ever-increasing, prompting T&G to invest in a world-class packhouse in Whakatu. This packhouse, one of the largest in the Southern Hemisphere, is a testament to T&G’s commitment to meeting global consumer demands and ensuring the highest quality of fruit.
The new Whakatu packhouse is set to pack over 125 million kgs of apples per season, double the current volume. T&G Global CEO Gareth Edgecombe emphasizes that this facility is crucial for managing increased growth, enhancing productivity, and ensuring that their apples arrive in excellent condition. The packhouse is not just about increasing capacity but also about creating value from New Zealand’s unique benefits and intellectual property.
To achieve this, T&G turned to Ulti Group, leveraging their extensive experience and innovative solutions. Our relationship with T&G spans many years, involving various projects for their distribution and pack houses. For the Whakatu packhouse, we provided a range of door solutions, including rapid doors, pedestrian access doors, roller shutters, and fire shutter doors. These doors are designed to maintain optimal temperature control and environmental conditions, opening only as long as needed to conserve energy.
One of the standout features of our doors is the soft bottom bag, which enhances safety and reliability. This innovation, along with the overall dependability of our system, made a significant impression on T&G. Our team worked closely with T&G’s planning teams, ensuring timely delivery and installation of the doors. The collaborative effort resulted in a seamless integration of our doors into the packhouse, contributing to the facility’s operational efficiency.
Despite the challenges posed by labor and material constraints during the COVID-19 pandemic, the construction of the packhouse was completed on time and within budget. Fpc Projects, the construction company, did an outstanding job, and we are proud to have played a part in this achievement. The packhouse, now operational, features over forty Ulti doors, each contributing to the smooth and efficient running of the facility.
Our doors have proven their worth, operating reliably day in and day out. This reliability and the strong relationship we have built with T&G have led to ongoing commitments to replace and fit more Ulti doors in their facilities. The success of this project underscores Ulti Group’s expertise and commitment to delivering high-quality solutions that meet the needs of our clients.
The new Whakatu packhouse is a shining example of how innovative solutions and strong partnerships can drive success. At Ulti Group, we are proud to have contributed to T&G Global’s vision of meeting future global consumer demand for premium apples. Our doors not only support the operational efficiency of the packhouse but also help in conserving New Zealand’s natural resources, aligning with T&G’s sustainability goals. As we continue to support T&G and other clients, we remain dedicated to providing solutions that enhance productivity, safety, and sustainability.
