L’Oréal Groupe Opens New 6-Green Star Distribution Facility in Ōtāhuhu

A milestone moment for sustainable logistics in Aotearoa

L’Oreal Group has officially opened its new distribution facility in Ōtāhuhu – a landmark development that sets a new national benchmark for sustainable logistics. Our team was proud to be onsite to capture the day and celebrate this achievement alongside project partners, industry leaders, and government representatives.

The facility is the first in New Zealand to achieve a 6-Green Star NZ Design & As Built v1.1 rating from the New Zealand Green Building Council (NZGBC). This rating reflects an uncompromising commitment to environmental performance, energy efficiency, and long-term operational sustainability.

Purpose-led investment

What stood out on opening day was the depth of intent behind the project. L’Oréal’s investment extends well beyond the building itself, with initiatives that demonstrate genuine care for people and place, including:

• Restoring the Tamaki wetlands in partnership with iwi
• Supporting women and children experiencing family violence through SHINE
• Championing future leaders in science, including this year’s UNESCO Women in Science Fellow for Aotearoa, Dr Jamie-Lee Rahiri

The facility carries a strong sense of purpose – thoughtful, future-focused, and designed to make a positive impact. The leadership of Alex Davison has been instrumental in bringing this vision to life.

A celebration shared

The opening was attended by an impressive gathering of national and international leaders, including the Prime Minster, Hon Christopher Luxon; Her Excellency Madame Laurance Beau; Minister for Auckland Simeon Brown; and representatives from the French New Zealand Chamber of Commerce and Industry. Their presence underscored the significance of the project for both countries.

More than a distribution centre

This new facility is a statement of confidence in New Zealand and a model for how global brands can invest responsibly, sustainability, and with strong community partnership. It also highlights the value of collaborative design and early engagement in achieving world-class outcomes.
