Synlait, one of New Zealand’s most innovative rising star dairy producers, recognises that it takes modern and innovative farming methods to produce the highest quality of milk, and are investing in state of the art facilities throughout NZ, to sustain their end to end production process, minimising temperature loss and maintaining a high level of food safety hygiene.
Synlait recently underwent an extension to their Canterbury plant, installing fresh milk manufacturing facilities. Tetra Pak, the world’s leading food processing and packaging solutions company, were the main contractors for this large project. First Principles Constructors Limited provided technical support and project management services to Tetra Pak in New Zealand for the building works. Ulti Group was proud to be an integral part of it. Ben Suckling (Senior Consultant for Christchurch) & Jerry Prestidge (National Sales Manager) worked closely alongside FPC (First Principal Constructors Limited) on the initial conceptual design and assisted in the decision-making process.
We interviewed FPC’s Design & Engineering Manager… Here’s what he said…
Why did you choose to partner with Ulti as the provider for your accessway solutions?
For more than 15 years I have dealt with Ulti for the supply and installation of specialist doors and dock-way systems. To me Ulti were the logical start and end point when I needed assistance with the new project.
What were the three points that governed your decision-making process? E.g. Price, Quality of Product, Service, company experience…?
My decision to go to Ulti for help with this project, much the same as other projects, was based on:
Ulti’s quality of service
The timeliness of supply of the products
The quality of product
While cost is always a factor, the three factors listed above differentiate Ulti from its competition.
Has the solution we’ve provided, met your expectations?
The quality of customer service (i.e. help and guidance) during the initial conceptual design and pricing was excellent. In particular, Jerry and Ben’s assistance with guiding the end client through the options and decision-making process for the dock-way systems in the ELA was invaluable. When the project is fully complete and the plant in operation, I expect the client to be fully satisfied with the system that they have chosen.
How was your experience, working with Ulti?
Excellent. Fantastic as usual. Ulti’s tender pricing was returned on time. After contract award shop-drawings of the various products were presented promptly and any corrections required were also addressed promptly. The various products arrived on-site on time and the installation was managed to ensure works were completed as required. Moving on from the initial tendered scope, additional works (which have been quite extensive) have been progressed quickly in an effort to keep the overall project on track. Jerry and Ben were fantastic to deal with.
Tell us what you love most about Ulti?
Quality of service is the key. Ulti’s willingness to not only complete their part of the works, but to try and make that work easier on the collective project team, is a point of difference.

I have in the past (and will continue to do so in the future) recommended Ulti to clients, potential clients and consultants.
