When a facility operates at pace, its entrances need to do more than just open and close. They need to support constant vehicle movement, protect people and assets, and maintain the integrity of the building – all without slowing operations down.
That’s exactly what was required at NZ Post’s Dunedin facility, wehre Ulti Group recently delivered a Komby door system designed to handle high-frequency use while maintaining clear opening height and site security.
In this project video, Alex from Ulti Southern walks through how the Ulti Komby solution works, why it was chosen, and what makes it different from more traditional door configurations.
Project Overview
- Client: NZ Post
- Location: Dunedin, New Zealand
- Solution: Ulti Komby Door System
- Application: High-traffic external opening with frequent courier and truck movements
NZ Post’s Dunedin operation is a busy logistics environment. With vehicles moving in and out throughout the day, the site needed a door solution that could keep up with demand while still protecting the building from unauthorised access.
The result was a Komby door system – combining two proven industrial door solutions into one integrated, space-efficient design.
What Is an Ulti Komby Door System?
An Ulti Komby door system combines:
- A roller shutter door for strength, security, and after-hours protection
- An Ulti Roll Rapid PVC door for fast, high-frequency operation during the working day
What sets the Komby system apart is how these two doors are integrated.
Rather than stacking the rapid door beneath the roller shutter barrel – which can reduce usable opening space – the Komby system uses a shared frame design, allowing both doors to sit at the same height.
This approach helps maintain maximum clear opening, which is critical in busy logistics and distribution environments.
Why Clear Opening Height Matters
In many industrial and logistics facilities, opening height can quietly become a bottleneck.
Traditional dual-door configurations often sacrifice vertical clearance, which can lead to:
- Restricted vehicle access
- Increased risk of door or vehicle damage
- Slower loading and unloading
- Operational inefficiencies over time
At NZ Post Dunedin, maintaining clear opening height was a key consideration. The Komby door system ensured vehicles could move in and out smoothly, without compromising safety or performance.
Designed for High-Frequency Use
One of the key deliverables for this project was high duty performance.
With courier and truck movements happening consistently throughout the day, the door system needed to:
- Open and close quickly
- Withstand frequent cycles
- Reduce downtime and maintenance disruption
The Ulti Roll Rapid PVC door is purpose-built for this kind of environment, supporting fast operation while helping maintain internal conditions and workflow efficiency.
Security Without Compromise
While speed and access were essential, building security was just as important.
The NZ Post Dunedin site includes an external opening that needs to be protected from the general public when not in active use. The roller shutter component of the Komby system provides that added layer of security and structural integrity.
Together, the two doors allow the site to:
- Operate efficiently during business hours
- Secure the facility after hours
- Maintain confidence in both people safety and asset protection
This balance between access and protection ins at the heart of the Komby solution.
A Smarter Approach to Industrial Door Design
The feedback on this installation has been overwhelmingly positive – and it highlights why Komby door systems are becoming a popular choice for logistics, warehousing, and industrial facilities across New Zealand.
By addressing multiple requirements in a single integrated solution, Komby doors help businesses:
- Improve operational flow
- Reduce wear and tear on equipment
- Enhance safety and security
- Make better use of available space
It’s a smarter, more efficient way to protect what matters.
